Lionel Messi’s Copa America campaign may have ended with a controversial red card, but the captain still had time to send an optimistic message to his team after victory over Chile.
The Barcelona star had a tough time at the Copa America and ended up ranting against the officials after being frustrated but a number of decisions but still reckons the future is pretty bright for Argentina.
“We’re leaving this Cup with a triumph but above all with our head high and with the feeling that this time football wasn’t fair with us. For how we played and because we were superior to Brazil, we deserved to be in the final of tomorrow. But you have to look forward with optimism because there is future and a very big base in this national team and you just have to give it some time.”
Messi’s red card against Chile will likely see him handed a ban for Argentina’s World Cupqualifying campaign which begins in March. There’s also a chance his ban could be extended given his comments about officials favouring Brazil after the match.
